This Cali beer more than holds its own against it older Euro brethren. Gordon Biersch strictly adheres to the German Purity Law of 1516, which provides that beer can only be made with water, barley, hops, and yeast. The aroma is clean and robust, leading off with a fresh maltiness and finishing with a smooth hop nose. At first taste, you'll notice the robust malt profile; however, somewhat unexpectedly, the hops really make this brew shine. And though it is hoppier than most beers of this style, the smooth mouthfeel nicely balances it out, crafting a distinctly American take on a classic Euro style. |
