Brasserie de Rochefort
Rochefort, Belgium
Belgian Dark Strong Ale
ABV: 11.3%
IBU: Unknown
RATING
93
Of the seven Trappist breweries in the world, only one can trace its root back further than Rochefort. The monks at Rochefort have clearly taken advantage of their long brewing tradition to perfect their craft. Of the three Trappist beers produced by the Abbey of Notre Dame, their "10," or blue cap, is the strongest in almost every way, including its potent 11.3% ABV. The aroma presents a malt sweetness containing hints of prune and pear. The malt continues to dominate in the flavor, and it plays well alongside a full body. Although the flavor might appear a touch too alcoholic, with age this beer will mature, mellow out, and become much smoother. Buy multiple bottles of this historic offering, and stash a few for a future rainy day.
