Most people that enjoy beer have only experienced one Trappist brewery in their life, if they have experienced any at all: Chimay. The most well-known Trappist brewery (at least in the States) is the producer of three different beers. It is up for debate which of these is the best, but we would like to make an argument for their tripel, which is also known as Cinq Cents in the 25.4 fluid oz bottle. The aroma of this beer starts with spicy notes and the fragrance of dried peaches. The taste is akin to the aroma with the malt coming off clean and dominant. The smoothness of this beer gives way to a clean and surprisingly dry finish. This may be the lightest color beer in Chimay's repertoire, but it is certainly not lacking in flavor. |
