Anderson Valley has been putting out incredible beers since 1987, so we were hoping this brew would live up to its reputation. The aroma could have been fresher, and it lacked the distinct Northwestern hop fragrance of citrus fruits and pine. Still, we enjoyed the mild, malty aroma and crisp start: The malty flavor had some robust, toasty notes and the bitterness came out in the end of the swallow and lingered well. It simply tasted a bit stale, and left us wanted a cleaner taste. Nevertheless, this beer is filling and hearty, and will pair well with light fish dishes like tilapia. |
