DRAFT REVIEW: Josef Bierbitzch Golden Pilsner
Josef Bierbitzch Golden Pilsner
Coast Range Brewing Co.
Gilroy, CA
German Pilsner
ABV: 4.5%
IBU: Unknown
RATING
84
This pilsner is contract-brewed for the Academy of Fine Beers (a beer marketing company) by the Coast Range Brewing Company in California, and while it could have more character, it is not a bad beer to relax with. The aroma is loaded with European malts, and the flavor follows this lead closely. A slight hint of adjuncts presented itself in the taste, but this is not too obvious of a detraction -- it is the hop flavor and bitterness that left us wanted more, and a crisp body just never seemed to come. The color is attractive even if the beer is slightly cloudy (unusual for a pilsner). While not the most stellar example of the style, this pilsner isn't a bad beer for session drinkers or someone just starting to get away from the most popular beers.
