Julius Echter is one of the foremost purveyors of German hefeweizens -- and once you get a smell of this beer, you will know why. Fresh bananas abound from the first scent of this brew and don't let up until well after your last swallow. The aroma is made up almost entirely of bananas with a slight citrusy note coming through in the end, and mild acidity in the mouth of this beer is pleasant, giving the flavor more of those same citrus tastes. Spiciness in the finish is what really sets this beer apart from the rest: It's heavy on the clove with even some warmer alcohols coming through. And take note of the nearly opaque gold color -- it's beautiful and should be savored. Brewed in Germany for 360 years, this brew gives other hefeweizens something to measure up to.
