DRAFT REVIEW: Fuller's ESB
Fuller's ESB
Griffin Brewery
London, England
Extra Special/Strong Bitter
ABV: 5.9%
IBU: Unknown
RATING
90
This beer is one of Fuller's -- and indeed all of England's -- most award-winning ales. The Campaign for Real Ale, a prestigious judging board in Europe, has given this beer more awards than it has any other beer in the Campaign's history. All this fuss, and the beer has only been brewed continuously since 1971! It starts with a strong aroma that is both malty and hoppy, accompanied by some fruity, apple aromas. The head is solid atop the amber body and lasts far longer than most, while the body is filling and complements the hoppy flavor beautifully. A slight hint of earthiness is mixed in with the soft floral notes as well. The very minor alcohol notes are possibly a bit too warming; still, this is easily one of the better ESBs made in the world today.
