This style of sour ale is also sometimes called Flanders red ale, stemming from the fact that these beers originated in West Flanders, Belgium. Our particular beer had a cork that was difficult to get out, but it held in a great level of carbonation. The beer's tart character is evident from the start of the aroma but never overwhelming. The woody character balances out the acid in the mouth of this beer, and while we wish it had a bit more body, it lingers well. It pours a dark mahogany color and has a brilliant head throughout. While slightly simple, this ale makes a fine introduction to this rare style.
