DRAFT REVIEW: Little Kings Cream Ale
Little Kings Cream Ale
Little Kings Brewing Co. (Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Co.)
Cincinnati, Ohio
Cream Ale
ABV: 5.5%
IBU: 20
RATING
83
One of the great things about cream ales is that they have the robust flavors of ales, yet they keep that smooth, easy-drinking character of a lager. And although most people think Little Kings is a beer similar to your average 40-oz. malt liquor, the truth is these small, 7-oz bottles actually hold a pretty darn good beer. The green bottles don't seem to hurt the beer much because the brewery uses liquid hop extract to bitter its product. That means the hops aren't very strong, but the beer isn't as suceptible to a skunky taste. The malt is also very meek but interestingly does have a few complex flavors including some bread and toasted notes. The finish of this brew is lightly fruity with apricot making a star appearance.
