ABV: 5.3%
IBU: 27
RATING
90
This beer's name comes from the process once used in Scotland to tax beer. Depending on a brew's alcohol strength, taxes would start at 60 shillings and rise on up. 90 Shilling is certainly a hearty Scottish ale, but it still is one of those easily sipped brews that just begs for you to buy a full case instead of a six-pack. The slightly hoppy aroma is somewhat unexpected for the style, but is a nice change from the norm. 90 Shilling has a smooth toasted character in the flavor, and nut and light citrus flavors round out the taste profile and make this beer very drinkable. There is also a creaminess to this beer's mouthfeel that makes it go down smooth -- even with its 5.3% ABV.
