DRAFT REVIEW: XX Ambar
XX Ambar
FEMSA
Mexico
Vienna Lager
ABV: 4.7%
IBU: Unknown
RATING
86
Although this beer is made in Mexico, it's widely enjoyed by an American audience. In fact, XX Ambar is the best-selling imported dark lager in the United States, and American drinkers consume 98 percent of the brand's exports. This beer has a rich amber head that's thicker than most examples of this style. Its aroma is muted and largely neutral, though as the beer warms, the aroma becomes maltier and more distinctive. The flavor is slightly toasty and has hints of caramel. The only issue with this beer is body, as it is slightly watery and too thin to fit well into the style. But because of the higher carbonation, the beer has a long-lasting head, which helps the pleasant soft malt taste linger longer than expected.
