American Barleywine
ABV: 10.0%
IBU: 48
RATING
90
Barleywines in America are sometimes disjointed, with obscene hops and out-of-this world malt characteristics, so when you find a beer like this, it is a welcome surprise. Chicken Killer's aroma is clearly malt dominant, with notes of apricot and alcohol coming through, while also featuring a mild citrus and floral hop quality. The taste is big, starting with toffee sweetness, burnt sugar notes, and a healthy does of American hop bitterness with notes of citrus and spice. The beer finishes sweet with a lingering alcohol presence felt on the lips and cheeks and a toffee aftertaste. This is a full-bodied beer, with high carbonation and high alcohol intensity. Chicken Killer goes great with apple or pear tarts, as well as creme brulee and other desserts with fruity or caramelized profiles.
