American Barleywine
ABV: 11.5%
IBU: 70
RATING
88
Doggie Claws pours a deep copper, nearly brown color, with good clarity. There is a bit of sediment in the glass, so it's best to pour carefully from the bottle. Doggie Claws is big and sweet overall, despite the big American hops used to create balance. The taste starts with distinct honey sweetness up front, high alcohol heat, and hop bitterness similar to fresh-ground pepper. Additionally, Doggie Claws shows off a fair amount of toffee throughout the taste and finishes sweet with a moderate lingering bitterness. Full-bodied with smooth carbonation, you'll notice a nice tingle to the cheeks and tongue, and the significant alcohol warmth also heats up the throat and chest quite nicely. Don't be afraid to buy several bottles and put them away for a few years; this beer will only improve over time.
