The milk stout (more commonly known as sweet stout) gets its name from the brewer's use of lactose as a fermentable sugar, which lends a decisively sweet finish. Mackeson Triple Stout pours thick and black into your glass, creating a dark brown head that is creamy and long lasting. The aroma shows off a bit of deep roasted malt along with a slight tart quailty and no notable hops. Mackeson is clean from the beginning with regard to taste, starting with a watery, toffeelike sweetness and moving into more of the roasted qualities you'd expect. The beer is light in body, with very low alcohol warming and gentle carbonation. Mackeson is good on its own, but will also go well with a meat and potatoes dinner. |
