The story goes that Old Engine Oil's original brewer used to spend his early years designing wooden prototypes for Ford. Perhaps this explains the classic car found on the label, or the name of this viscous brew from Scotland. One thing is for sure: This is a black beer, with the slightest garnet hues peeking through when held to the light. LIke many beers from the region, Old Engine Oil has a slightly smoky character in the aroma and a touch of burnt malt and fruity undertones. Its flavor is big and burnt, with candy sweetness meeting you up front, showing notes of coffee alongside black and chocolate malts. Again, a minor smoky quality is found in the aftertaste, accenting the beer's dry finish and medium body.
