American Pale Ale
ABV: 5.5%
IBU: 51
RATING
85
Mad Anthony was an associate of Ben Franklin’s, and because history tells us that Franklin loved his beer, it seems fitting that Erie Brewing named its American pale ale for this remarkable figure. The beer is honey-gold with wonderful transparency and a creamy, bubbly crown that storms the glass and vanishes. There’s very little in the way of aroma, with faint herbal hops and an understated grainy malt character. Mad Anthony’s flavor starts equally mild before moving into an assertive hop bitterness. In fact, the bitterness is slightly out of balance, lacking the hop flavors and the malt backbone needed to support it. With a clean finish, this beer comes and goes quickly on the tongue.
