This brunette beer pours with a thick, creamy head. 90 Shilling starts off powerfully in the nose, brimming with smoky grains but just a tinge of alcohol, like watered-down scotch. The flavor up front features toasted barley sweetness that melts into fresh nut flavors in the middle of the swallow. Smoky notes are most prominent in the finish and last into the aftertaste, but are not deep and don’t dominate the palate. 90 Shilling is an excellent example of Scottish brewing tradition with a medium body and velvety texture.
