Though the doppelbock style is steeped in German tradition, this bottle doesn’t come from Deutschland. This Italian version pours a gorgeous amber-brown, brilliantly clear with a long-lasting creamy, tan head. A sweet Munich malt bouquet swims to the nose, carrying hints of chocolate and deep toasted bread speckled with fruity raisin accents. On the tongue, caramel sweetness slinks across the palate while an uncharacteristically elevated bitterness creates a pleasant balance. Smooth alcohol braids the swallow. This palate-filling brew tickles every corner of the mouth; thick and well-carbonated, it’s simply delicioso.
