This ominous brew pours inky black with a persistent brown, mousselike head -- the first indicator that this beer’s big. Rich chocolate, coffee beans, and a slight coconut presence fill the nose, but don’t cover the tingling alcohol in this full-bodied brew. Chewy to say the least, Yeti presents equally strong flavors: a powerful vanilla oak presence alongside big chocolate and cocoa bitterness, and a surprising amount of citrus hops that add a juicy spark to this otherwise dark, savory stout. While the base imperial stout style is clearly well-constructed, the addition of oak -- specifically vanilla and earthy qualities -- punches it into a new level of enjoyment. Its surprisingly dry finish, with bitter chocolate, engages the drinker to revisit the bold flavors in the next mouthful. |
