Wood-Aged Beer
ABV: 11.5%

RATING
84
Just a whispery white head passes above this very clean, deep golden-orange English barleywine aged in oak sherry casks, but everything else about the beer is vigorous. In the nose, a heavy dose of sherry dominates the senses, with blueberry hints and an alcohol presence that drenches the nostrils with stickiness. As it warms, caramel sweetness begins to peek through. Up front, the barleywine's present; then, sherry quickly takes over, bombarding the palate with sugary sweetness that distracts from the juicy array of raisins, plums, citrusy tangerine, and orange notes. While sherry steals the spotlight from the base barleywine style, the beer's growing complexity as it warms and heavy sugar presence will capture sweet tooths.
