RATING
95
Old Speckled Hen pours an attractive bright, deep gold with a playful, bubbly white head that endures. From its thick top, a sweet caramel and earthy hop aroma unfolds, with hints of dark fruit and biscuit adding richness. But the real pleasure of this brew is its ultracreamy texture; as each sip splashes against the front of the tongue, nutty, biscuity notes sink in. Sharp hop bitterness works the top and sides of the tongue as the beer washes back, cutting the rich malt flavor to reveal subtle fruity esters. Balanced between bitter and sweet from front to back, the former recedes in the swallow as a lingering bitterness grips the back of the throat, tempting another sip.
