This cola-colored brew’s tan head may be fleeting, but an alluring, even-handed mix of roasted cereal and milk chocolate with a smattering of earthy, grassy hops lingers in the air. While the brew starts with a touch of roast, chocolate and caramel quickly emerge to keep the bitterness at bay as the beer washes back. As in the aroma, an herbal hop flavor pokes out from the depths of these dark flavors toward the back, adding earthiness to the experience. Drinking Buried Hatchet is almost like munching on a cookie; instead of one flavor dominating, bitter roast and sweetness roll over the tongue together and fade with each other into the aftertaste. |
