Praised for their drinkability, Irish reds present a distinct reddish appearance (thanks to a bit of roasted malt) and a delightfully malt-focused taste. A tan head gives off a clean aroma of caramel, toast or toffee; a smooth, medium body carries a caramel-toffee flavor with a hint of English hops. The drink concludes with a characteristic light roastiness and a somewhat dry finish. ABVs fall between 4 and 6 percent.
Pair: We like Irish reds best with sliders and fries at the bar. The beer’s smooth malt taste contrasts the saltiness of French fries, and the roasted quality mimics the mini-burgers’ char.
