THE SWIFT HALF TO HOST IRON HILL BEER DINNER WITH BREWER PAUL RUTHERFORD
On Saturday, March 13 at 7 p.m., cozy neighborhood bar and restaurant Swift Half (215-923-4600; www.swifthalfpub.com) will host a Beer Dinner featuring the delicious cuisine of Chef Jessica O’Donnell and the inspired ales and lagers of Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant’s Paul Rutherford. Rutherford, who is head brewer at Iron Hill’s Lancaster location, will be on hand to discuss the beers with guests and offer tips on pairing beer and food. This special meal is $55 per person, excluding tax and gratuity; reservations are required.
“We’re very excited to work with Paul, because typically you can only Iron Hill beers at Iron Hill locations,” says Chef O’Donnell. “We worked together to create this menu of beer-friendly fare and coordinate it with some of his favorite beers, and we’re thrilled to share this special meal with our guests.”
Menu items will include: Pan-Seared Shrimp Cakes with goat cheese and papaya emulsification, paired with Biere de Mars, a French farmhouse-style ale brewed with wheat, aromatic malts and a touch of orange peel; Vindaloo Pizza with grilled chicken and pickled jalapenos, paired with Rye IPA, an American IPA brewed with a generous amount of hops and rye malt for dry spiciness; Lamb Loin with lamb jus, quinoa salad, yogurt, dried cranberries, apples, celery and smoked almonds, paired with Braveheart, a strong Scotch ale brewed with Belgian yeast for a distinct, fruity character; and Porter-Pumpernickel Bread Pudding with roasted chiles, vanilla braised figs and chocolate drizzle, paired with Oompa Loompa Chocolate Stout, an English stout brewed with Belgian bittersweet chocolate, milk sugar and Madagascar vanilla beans.
Owned and operated by David Garry and Heather Gleason of downtown’s wildly popular Good Dog Bar & Restaurant, Swift Half’s delectable menu and dizzying drink selections combine with the soaring space and lovely outdoor patio on The Piazza to create a welcoming – and delicious – new restaurant and bar. Throughout the year, guests can enjoy the tremendous variety of free programming on The Piazza, including films on the big screen, farmers’ markets, live telecasts of local sporting events and much more, from within Swift Half or, in warmer months, seated outside in their significant patio area.
